Here at Kids In The House Child Care, we have a very busy day. Our day begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. I believe in structure for the children whenever possible. They love knowing what will come next in their day. They get very excited as we transition from one thing to another. I do allow for some flexibility because, as we all know, things do happen in the course of our days. For example, maybe it's a very beautiful day outside and it hasn't been for awhile. The children are having so much fun playing outside. Since the weather is so nice and we haven't been out in awhile, I'll push back our lunchtime perhaps 15 minutes or so. That is just one example of how we can work flexibility into our schedule. If I have infants in care, we need to be flexible as well since they are cared for on demand.

We begin our day with Circle which includes Calender, Weather, and Letter of the Week. Breakfast is served at 8:30 a.m. After breakfast, the children will enjoy Free Play. Free Play consists of Activities, Learning Centers, Discovery Play and lots of socializing, free play continues until 10 a.m. We learn themes such as Apple Picking, Seasons of the Year, Health & Safety, as well as letters, numbers, colors, and shapes. I want to add here that learning is an ongoing process. I believe children learn best through play. Throughout the day age appropriate expressive art activities, cooking, science activities, Fine Motor activities, math skills and books are always available.

From 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. it is Outside time (weather permitting) and Gross Motor Play. Gross Motor play consists of music and movement time, dancing, jumping, rolling, animal actions and exercising.

From 11:00 -11:30 We have Music Time, short stories and get washed up and ready for lunch.

Lunch is from 11:30 - Noon. and meets the Federal Child Care Food Guidelines for nutrition. We serve healthy foods here at Kids In The House Child Care. My policy is that all children are served a little of each item we are having and they may eat what they wish. Foods are never forced or withheld as punishment. After lunch, we wash and clean up and prepare for Quiet Time. From 12:15 - 2p.m it is time to rest. If a child just cannot seem to rest, she or he may lay quietly on their mat and read or look at books.

We begin waking up at 2 p.m. and normally everyone is up and raring to go very quickly. I serve a nutritious snack between 2 and 2:30p.m. p.m. for all children. After snack, children once again have Outside Time or Gross Motor Play from 2:30 - 3:30 p.m. We also may work on an art project. To end our day the children again enjoy Free Play until they are picked up to go home.
